I have a HP pavilion DV4000 laptop.

I was wondering if I can use the remote control in Linux.

I accidentally tried it on GRUB boot menu and wow! it worked!
the 4 direction keys and ok button (which all have equivalents on the keyboard like Enter key) are working. that means the mapping of remote control buttons to keyboard keys are done automatically by the controller and system BIOS.

So the only thing that remains is to map other remote control keys to
various shortcuts under Linux. I found nothing directly related to
remote control device controller using lspci. Does anyone now how to
proceed with this thing? all comments are appreciated.

hi. i have just bought a dv4394 myself. seem to be having some dissatisfaction with the hard disk. its a little slow 4200 rpm. wat say. could u do me a favour please. download performance test 6.0 shareware version on ur comp and run the test. please let me know about the results(especially the hard disk results) - i d be really grateful. sorry for not replying to ur question. had to communicate with u this way only. my email id: yesrohit2000@yahoo.com
