What distro? What card? What router? What channel are you on? Are you sure the essid's match? Encryption is on or off? You've plugged in a wire to the router and verified it works with a cable running to it?

And just noticed this too...

" eth0 device: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
eth0 configuration: eth-id-00:0f:b0:41:df:80
eth0 (DHCP) . IP/Netmask: 192.168.0.117 / 255.255.255.0 done"

If your tyring to get the wireless internet card working, why do you have a wired eth0 card plugged in and ready to go. One at a time may get you better results than trying to run both of them.

"i have suse 9.2 "

Cool, then, problem solved.
As stated above, use the network connections one at a time, not both together. You'll need to disable the onboard eth0 completely for the wireless card to get an IP.
The best way to make it work is this.
Run yast, and open the network card program.
Delete all configure network cards, apply your changes,.
Remove any and all configuration you have done for wlan0 if you used anything outside of yast to set it up.
Leave the ndiswrapper module as it is, you'll use it again in a few steps.
Shut the computer down all the way (so the power goes off) Then turn it back on.
Start yast and the network card program again
Set up a new (other) network card, and tell it the module is ndiswrapper.
You can tell it its a wireless card, but do not click the pcmcia button or it will remove some of your options.
Follow through the steps and enter your essid and security key if needed...
Apply your changes and the network should work fine after a reboot.

Note you cannot use both eth0 and wlan0 at the same time as active connections, suse will give priority to the onboard eth0 and it will be set up for your internet connection.

In the networking section where it has yast modules for creating and deleting network cards. You'll see the part where it says module to load...

Thanks for your info. I already did that. Please let me know if I need to issue ifconfig command or any other command before I reboot my machine.
Thanks again.

Well, now you can try checking what channel you have the router set to... Maybe try
iwconfig wlan0 essid any
And see if it spells your essid differently than what you have set...

DUDE I'VE GOT THE SAME LAPTOP AND HAVE THE WIRELESS WORKING! The reason that was caps is because I have never seen anyone with my same laptop. Actually, the radio is a 0000:02:02.0 Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03). You are going to have one problem with this card. It will randomly drop any AP on any linux distro at any time, and this happens randomly. It is a problem with IRQ's, but there is a fix, which I discovered after literally 70 hours, so I am very excited to share this information. Can anyone tell him to pass "acpi=noirq" to his boot loader under his suse 9.2 distro?

I would recommend ndiswrapper version .12-r3 with the latest HP drivers (bcmwl5a.inf and bcmwl.sys) from the HP website.

For your wireless diagnosis try #iwconfig in a terminal. This should let you know what, if any AP's you're connected to. When you modprobe the ndiswrapper module, it will automatically connect to the strongest signal from any AP, which may not be yours. Moreover, you may not be able to use another's AP if it is so configured. The iwconfig man pages will tell you how to switch over to another AP. Once you've managed that, #dhcpcd wlan0 should help as well as #ifconfig wlan0 up (though you should do this in the opposite order.) #ifconfig eth0 down (will tell linux to use the wireless and not the ethernet.)

Try Ubuntu Linux. I had lots of problems with wireless on my Presario 2541EA when I used RedHat, Fedora, or Mandrake. Ubuntu configured all my hardware, including my wireless card, during installation. No problems at all.

i loaded the os suse 9.2 again. I first installed the source code for the kernel
the kernel linux-2.6.8-24
the commands i issued to install the source code was
make menuconfig (kept the default configuration)
make clean
make modules
make modules_install

then i downloaded the ndiswrapper(version 0.12) and the driver bcmwl5a.inf
installed the ndiswrapper
issuing the command make install (in the ndiswraper directory)

then issue the command
ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5a.inf
ls: /etc/ndiswrapper: No such file or directory
Installing bcmwl5a

Then i issued the command
ndiswrapper -l
Installed ndis drivers:
bcmwl5a driver present, hardware present

Then I issued the command
modprobe ndiswrapper

it gave me the the following error

FATAL: Error inserting ndiswrapper (/lib/modules/2.6.8-24-smp/extra/ndiswrapper.
ko): Invalid module format

then i issued the command
dmesg

in the end i saw that the ndiswrapper version is not the same

could u please let me know how come it sees version .10 when i downloaded version .12

and is there a fix to my problem

thanks in advance

PS It gave me great releif when i saw that you have same laptop and u configured it for wireless
I just want to follow ur steps too.
