HP Laptop Fan not activating (SUSE9.3)

my fan on my laptop does not turn on under Suse 9.3. Now I read some things about how the ACPI is probably at fault and I should use APM so how would I go about doing this?

ACPI is much better than APM...

What is the processor? model of laptop?

Did you check at http://www.linux-laptop.net/

Place your question more clearly! Do you do run any high CPU processing jobs to get the processor hot enough to turn the fan.... Try "compiling some program"....

If you have kpowersave applet in your system tray; see if it is "Performance, acoustic.... modes" Change the modes to see if any change you observe.

Open Yast "Add and remove software" and try to reinstall "Mobile Laptop related tools"

Next Open "power management" and Explore your settings...
