I'm running Fedora 13 on my 8530p laptop. When in docking station, with monitor on DVI connector, the system appears to boot fine, but as soon as gdm starts, screens (both LVDS and DVI) are black.
It works when I disconnect DVI connector, boot up to gdm, connect DVI again and log in.
Once logged on and DVI connected, gnome monitor properties shows my external monitor twice (!!), don't know why. When activating the right one, my external monitor turns on and all works well. gdm won't get it right at boot time, though.
Xorg.0.log reveals that it thinks that HDMI is connected and it identifies my external monitor being connected to it. My assumption is that it is actually activating the hdmi port, causing my monitor to go back to sleep.
If this is the case, I would like to know if I could tell xorg not to activate the hdmi output (F13 doesn't have an xorg.conf file anymore, I'd have to go though and create one again..?).
xorg is designed to run with no xorg.conf if the defaults are ok. Somehow I don't think they are.
write one, and you have the choice of left/right or same stuff on both monitors. put in a monitor section describing each. Plenty of examples/howtos online, some on this site.
But it wouldn't be user friendly and appears to be a bug of some sort.. I'd like to be able to narrow down why xorg doesn't initialize correctly.. So I'll dig into creating an xorg.conf, but that'll help me in this instance.. it'd be better if initialization gets an improvement of some sort..
