How to make iso file bootable on Asus EEEPC 1000 ?

Here's the scene...I have the netbook listed above...I have an iso file for Ubuntu...I have no CD/DVD drv in this system...I copied the iso file to USB pen drive...my bios lists a "removeable device" as an option for booting...I bought this netbook in 2008 so I'm assuming that I can boot from any usb device.

I copied the iso to the pen drive, I checked my bios to have "removeable device" as a first option...I reboot my machine and nothing happens except I arrive at the Windows login/welcome screen. I installed http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ that would allow me to boot from a usb device...still no joy. I believe I have followed their instructions exactly.

Q#1 - does just copying an iso file to the usb pen drv make it bootable?

Q#2 - Should I use my disk authoring/burning software instead of just copying?

No. You need to do some work to make the USB stick bootable. For Ubuntu installation instructions have you looked here?

Your disk authoring software is unlikely to understand how to deploy an ISO to a USB stick and make it bootable. Stick to the link above.

As a side note (if I recall correctly) with my eeepc 901 I hit a key at the start of boot up (F8?) and pop menu allows me to choose which of the connected devices to boot from. I think I needed to do that to boot from USB when I installed Debian.

EDIT: Just looked it up and it seems the key for a boot menu is ESC. However, you'll still need to prepare the USB appropriately first.
