HOW TO INSTALL A CONEXANT ACLINK 56 K MODEM ON A COMPAQ NX 9000 SERIES FOR REDHAT 9.0
1. Download the Conexant HSF modem driver from www dot linuxant dot com for your Redhat kernel. The free driver allows a modem speed of only 14.4 k. The full-fledged 56 K driver will have to be purchased from Linuxant.
2. Remove /dev/modem. If it's there, the symlink may not be created.
rm -f /dev/modem
3. Install the modem driver.
rpm -ivh <driver file name>
4. Use "Software (xon/xoff)" flow control for dialers, terminal emulation software.
That 14.4 limitation must be new. The version I got about 6 months ago works all the way up to 53k which is as fast as I have ever gotten the POS winmodem to reach even in Windows.
Hi PcGHost -
Was wondering if you still have that version of the driver you picked up six months ago? Is it possible for you to post it somewhere so I can download it? I am interested in seeing if it will work now. Warm regards.
