Question how to get the source and install older udev?

Hi,all

I downgrade my kernel from 2.6.20.1 to 2.6.11.6 in FC5 at my laptop and one error happened while starting udev.
The error message as follows:
Kernel too old for udev version

I query google and find that I can install older version udev to solve this issue.

I am sufferring to that I don't know how to check my running version of udev and how to get the source and install older udev.

Does any one can show me the way?

First why the downgrade to a kernel older then what first came with FC5??? FC5 was released with (for example) kernel-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5.i586.rpm

Second downgrading udev also requires downgrading other packages like hal, this is not a good idea. What is/are the issue[s] you are having that you feel the need so such an old kernel???

Thanks for your advice.

I downgrade to an older kernel for verifying one WLAN USB device. The driver of USB can run at 2.6.11.12 and older ker. I failed to insmod it to 2.6.20.1 but successed to 2.6.11.8.

With 2.6.11.8 in FC5 my laptop failed to start udev for error: kernel too old for udev version. ker 2.6.20.1 don't have such udev error but failed to insmod the USB driver. There is little chance to modify the driver for ker 2.6.15 or higher so I have to downgrade my udev version to meet the older ker 2.6.11.8 in FC5.

Could you kindly show me how and what are the whole pacage list required for downgrading udev in FC5?
Thanks.

Which USB wirless device do you have, in many cases wireless devices can be used in Linux by installing ndiswrapper if no native driver is available. In a number of cases using the dkms package from Fedora Core extras and one of the dkms-<something> packages provides the support for the wireless device.

The current list of wireless interfaces supported by ndiswrapper can be found here:
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/joomla/ click on the Documents/Wiki link.

To see what depends on udev and hal type: rpm -e udev hal --test
