Hello,

Have a look at man pages for fdisk, cfdisk, parted, gparted. And please remove the advertising in your signature, it's against the LQ Rules to which you agreed when signing up.

Kind regards,

Eric

just install gparted and simply edit your HDD partitions easily in GUI

If you have Vista or Windows 7 then use the built in tools to re-size partitions and create them in windows.

When you install then you select the new partitions. Be careful. Dual boots tend to mess up newbies.

If you want you can install to a usb flash or external usb hard drive. Remove power to internal hard drive before you attempt to be sure no data is written to that drive.

If you want you can usually do well with a free virtual machine. Most run fine on a newish system. It is the most safe way to run both at the same time at or near native speeds.
