How to connect Acer Aspire One Linux Linpus to Wifi hotspot
I have the Acer Aspire One and would like to connect it to the Wifi at our gym. How exactly do I do this? When I switch my wireless on and search for networks I find one but it asks for a sort of password and other settings. Im new at this, so I hope someone can help me.

You see, even wanting one couldn't help you much here, your question is way too much unspecifical.

Please read

For the time being, I can suggest you to open a terminal and do something like

ifconfig -a
Single out the wireless interface, it is usually wlan0 or ath0 or similar. I assume it is wlan0. Then do

iwlist wlan0 scan
and choose the access point of your gym.

To connect, it should suffice to do

iwconfig wlan0 essid <your gym network name> key <yourpassword,ifany>
If the one above succeeds (you can check issuing iwconfig), then you're almost done, just issue

dhcpcd -n
Good luck.

Not free Wifi
Not all Wifi networks are free. Hence the password. Google the network found by your Acer to get to the ISP. Sign up. Usually coffee shops, restaurants, hotels and airports have open networks, but in the first instances this is just fly bait.

The latter use it for convenience of patrons and passengers to create a frictionless environment. As much as there aint no free cell phones on this planet, this is paid for as well. Out of the profit margin, hence your expensive coffee, steak, vacation or air fare.

Nothing wrong with your Acer. There just aint no such thing as a free lunch.

You could check with your Gym.
Request for a password means it's a secured connection. It might or might not be available to you. You could check if it's for Administration only or available to Patrons. I have done this before and often been given the password and settings as long as I didn't abuse the service.
Good Luck
