How to bind scroll buttons?

I'm running Kubuntu on a Gateway 450sx4 laptop. Out of the box the scroll button worked fine, but I installed the updated DRI drivers for my ATI chip to get some better 3D performance. This seemed to break the scroll buttons for my touchpad. I have tried tweaking my xorg.conf as decribed in some other threads, but this hasn't helped. I also updated my synaptics drivers. The buttons are still picked up by the OS, but the functions are wrong. The "down" button pastes whatever is in the clipboard, and the "up" button seems to act like the left mouse button. How can I rebind these buttons to scroll?

1) make sure the right driver is used for the mouse (or "auto if you don't know)

2) for scroll, you need the zmapping option thing on
