How does one install ATI Radeon HD 7730 (64 bit) driver on Debian?
I am new to Linux (and all its commands) and definitely new to Debian as well.
I have just installed the 64bit version of Debian 6.0.6 on my PC and would like to learn how to install drivers for my ATI Radeon HD 7730 video card. I have downloaded AMD Catalyst 12.10 Proprietary Display Driver (Linux x86_64) from AMD's website ( http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...eon_linux.aspx ) Then I surfed over to the unofficial AMD Linux community website ( http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/12.10 ) and looked at the specific requirements for Catalyst 12.10. They are: Quote:
XOrg 6.7, 6.8, 6.9, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.5 or 7.6 glibc version 2.2 or 2.3 XFree86-Mesa-libGL XFree86-libs I would appreciate it if someone could provide me details on where and how to download and install the above. P.S.: If for some reason one needs to download and install the missing components using the traditional Linux commands, please provide details on how and what commands to issue. As I said before, I am very new to Linux and Debian. Thanks. |
ATI is dead, has been for ages. Its AMD GPUs now.
Radeon HD 7730 doesnt exist.....you probably mean HD 7730M ('M' for mobile) . Following the debian guide for how to installing the AMD/ATI drivers is where I would start- http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary |

And thanks for the link to the wiki article. I am new to Linux and Debian and hence I will have to take some time to learn how to install the said AMD GPU driver. |
I remember me having a wide range of problems whit the radeon drivers on ubuntu.
Even when the driver is installed it won't give a 100% Took me ages to get ubuntu working whitout crashing every second boot after install. Even when editing the grub i got crashes even worce xp. That with allot of help from the ubuntuforums users. Even though they failed to give me the correct answer. if it boots you can install a program called additional drivers. That installed the ati driver for me. Manually would probs be the best way but since i did not find the correct driver... even though mine is radeon dual graphics. |
Did you run the driver file at all? Try running it from command prompt with ./ prefixed to it. eg: ./ati-driver-installer-n-n-x86.x86-64.run
