How do I lose the huge border?

I've only just installed red-hat 9 on my laptop and it works fine except there is a massive border (about 2 inch thick) all the way around the screen. This doesn't occur in windows though. Does anyone know how I can correct this?

Also, whenver I can't change the resolution from 800x600 to 1024x700 - when I reboot it is still at 800x600.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks

for the first problem, are you using the same resolution and color depth in Windows ? if not, try increasing the resolution and decreasing the color depth.

for the second, how are changing the resolution? by editing a file ? or using a RedHat config tool ?

usually ( not sure about RedHat ), there is a /etc/X11/XF86Config file that you can play with.

I had the same problemt he first time I installed Red Hat 9 on my laptop. It rufused to change while in Linux, so I re-installed, this time sellecting a laptop screen at the appropriate resoulution.

It now works as it should.
