How can I close lid without sleep?

Hi all friends,

I was bought laptop dell to build home-server. In my new lappy installed CentOS 5 (was update too).
I want lappy running when closing lid. And 3 question:
_Prevent laptop sleep
_When close lid, then open lid, monitor poweroff (how can i turn on it)

My CentOS is Command Line (not Graphic)

Thank!

This is not an answer to your question merely a warning. You are asking for trouble running a laptop with the lid closed. The lid being open helps to disperse heat.

I did see a bios setting on one that allowed some choices. Even command line would have acpi or apm. I guess you could disable that or look at settings for those.

Thank you very much!

I'm reinstalled with graphic for selecting, conffig from GUI.
Then, switching init 5 to 3. Althought with GUI will loss resource, but currently, that is solution.

@jetro: i don't know how can i looking for laptop support acpi or apm.

Goodluck new day, my friends.

Almost all laptops have the hardware support for acpi or apm power management. Not all OS's have support. Linux usually has it by default but each laptop may need some special commands to correct default install.

acpi and apm are both hardware and software parts.

I have no idea why doing a telinit 3 would change how acpi works but if you are happy then you ought to leave it.

I'm tried with Fedora and I see: Fedora support driver better than centos
