high cpu usage on process "event/0"

I'm running SuSE 10.1 RC1 on an advent 7093 (Intel Core Duo T2300 w/ nvidia geforce go 7400) and have a process showing in 'top' called "event/0" that has approx. 90% cpu usage...constantly!

Does anyone know what this process is and how I can stop it from overloading my system?

if you kill it, does it reload itself?

rioch 04-18-2006 02:58 PM

Not sure if it is even letting me kill it. Definitely still there after I try though.

your problem is strange, normally events/0 stays at 0.0 cpu usage
you did a kill -9?

from what i've been reading it is a kernel process. (which means asking you to kill it wasn't such a good idea). did you happen to compile your kernel for your dual core processor?

I didn't compile my kernel but it is an smp type (for multiprocessor architectures) and seems to detect it fine.

update

** UPDATE**
I have now installed SUSE 10.1 RC3 and the problem still exists, however the problem still occurs and in a slightly different manner. Now, both events/0 and events/1 in the process table are taking up a lot of cpu time, as if sharing it, which leads me to believe that it has something to do with the processor I have. The Internet yeilds nothing useful, not even an explanation of what they are.

Anyone got any advice? Log files etc I could look in?
