Hi all, can't run ubuntu on my lap
Hi all,
My name is Amit and I am a new user (more correctly want to be a new user)of linux. I downloaded Ubuntu's latest ver 12.10 for 64 bit and 32 bit and burned it with infra recorder to a DVD CD. When I tried to go to setup when the laptop starts I chose to start from the CD/DVD drive and until here all is O.k. When my lap started to load the live C.D at the start it was all fine too, but after a minute or two it showed this screen: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...112112149.jpg/ and after a while it says it failed to load screen 2 or something like that and after that screen 3. here is a photo: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...112111758.jpg/ I tried to re burn the ubuntu, it failed too as the old one. then I tried to download and burn the 32 bit ver of ubuntu 12.10 and the same result appeared. After that I tried to download and burn the 12.04 ver in the 32 bit and 64 bit editions and it was the same as the last. Please help me I eager to use linux and see the wide world of opportunities it has to offer. Thank you :). |
How old/new is the laptop? Did you check the minimum hardware requirements for Ubuntu? (just google that if you haven't). Did you verify the download with the md5checksum? burn it as an image? burn the iso at a low speed?

I can't see the second screen image, but the first looks like bad news! Either your computer doesn't like Ubuntu or something is wrong with your copy.
If you press a key the moment you get a small image at the bottom of the screen, you get a menu. This gives you the chance to check that the disk was correctly burnt; I think it's called "disk integrity check". |
Might be time to go back and see if your download file is correct by use of md5.
DavidMcCann may be correct when booted to some initial screen or by some keystroke one can access a self check of cd. This link is for 10 but may still work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3QUoGdIG7U If you have some idea that this computer is 64 bit then we'd wonder why some cd won't boot up. |
Hi,
First of all thankyou for your will to help! Second I checked the CD like you said in the boot menu and it was all O.k. I redownloaded the ubuntu files and reburned and got the same result. My lap is a Toshiba Qosmio and when i asked me uncle about it he said it does not support linux. I want to know if it's true and if it is, is it possible to pass it and install linux although the problem. And another thing: I do have a PCLinux Live CD and when I start it it openes fine but always pop's up a message about problem with KDE. Thanks! |
It's not true that this computer won't work with Linux, but it may need a little persuasion. I searched for "Linux Toshiba Qosmio" and got lost of results like this
