Unhappy Help! Weird problem with Cisco 350 card and Toshiba satellite.

Ok everyone, I need help. I am having a heck of a time trying to get my Cisco Aironet 350 series pcmcia wireless client adapter to work on my laptop. WAIT! I know a lot of people have posted about this but my problem ( I think ) is weird (to me). Here are the specs:

Laptop: Toshiba satellite 1135-si155
Card: Cisco Aironet 350 series
Authentication: LEAP
Dist: Redhat 9.0 with kernel 2.4.25 (compliled with the 350 pcmcia drivers ).

Here's the deal. When I put the card in, I get the two beeps; when i do lsmod i can see the modules airo.o and airo_cs.o. I have installed the linux client utilites that Cisco provides. I have DHCP from ISC. Now...when I try to configure my card using neat, I cannot get it to activate. BUT, if I use dhclient eth0 I am able to get an IP assigned to me. AND the acu utility tells me that I am associated after i put in my LEAP credentials with leapset (comes with the Cisco utilites). After I do the previous two steps independent of neat, and THEN try to activate eth0 from neat, it never is succesful. Although for a moment it says it is active (only as long as i dont try to click "activate") WHY?? also somethimes it (neat) seems to make me lose the IP that i got from dhclient. I have tried a million things and am totally lost. When I use neat I try to set Mode to "Auto" but that gives an error. SO keep it on Managed. I checked my ifup-wireless script and for Mode options it doesnt have "Auto" so maybe this why? Also I was having a problem with neat before (still with 350) and I updated to the newest version. So I can use "dhclient eth0" to get an ip but when i try "ifup eth0" it wont work! And when I have mode set to Auto "ifup eth0" spits out an error about that!

Whats going on??? It seems that I can get an ip and even authenticate myself on the network (not mine but schools )but when I try to use neat the sh*# hits the fan. While I have an IP and am authenticted I CANNOT ping anything. Please help me out. I am not a Linux expert but on a scale of 1 - 10 probably a 4 or 5.
