Hi,
There are so many nice folks out there helping computer newbies like me dump XP by helping them through the normal stuff that XP does for us automatically, on our new linux OS. Like some folks this command prompt stuff seems a little intimidating to me, but I'm willing since this could open up a whole new world of free instead of costly (or stolen for some) operating systems and software. Honestly, it seems my little Averatec 2260 lappy may not be the best candidate for such a move. Seemingly no XGL, COMPIZ, BERYL support or potential. But hey I'll learn on this lappy, then when I can afford to change it I will.
So for starters this is the lappy: Averatec 2260
I tried Ubuntu, which froze, so I'm on to Novell's SLED 10.
I want to:
Get wifi working, I've got a Ralink internal USB
talk to my home printers on the network, they use little netgear print servers,
get my screen up to 1280x800, instead of 1024x768 (regular procedure does nada...)
Please help another average pc user migrate away from windows forever!!! I figure if some nice techie out there would be so kind as to guide me through all this, this could prove to all that the big monopoly could shrink down to a marketshare competitor instead of the market driver!
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!
Joe
