help setting up xserver on my laptop


Hello people

i have a Medion laptop, with an ati m6-m mobilecard, and i am having trouble setting up x server on it. i just get an error with "no screens found"
im unsure weather it is my monitor or mobilecard that is the problem. I have a 14,1" TFT screen with a max. disply of 1024*768

any help would be very appreciated, because im kinda lost

Well first. try the lowest pix i.e. 800x600 and the lowest colors let's say 256 colors. If that works, it might appear that the resolution is to high ...

Have you defined your hardware correctly ? Screens can't be found when it caught a signal, which can be displayed, or the VGA-Card is not properly installed.

best place to start

Hi,

Have you checked http://www.linux-laptop.net/ ?

It is organized well, starts off by manufacturer.

With some laptops I've put LINUX on, it is never possible
to get an automatic configuration to work. I suggest grabbing
the XF86Config file for your model, and putting it in
the required place, usually /etc/X11/ ...

That site has saved me many times!
