greetings n2imxed, I don't have your modem so I cant' really give you the info you need, what I can do is tell you that if you would post a new thread with "ctx softfax modem doesn't work" as the title instead of "Help Please!" as the title than anyone who *does* have your hardware and can help you might click on the thread and get you going.

I haven't been a member here real long, but as someone who cruises thread titles to see who I can help, "Help Please!", doesn't tell me much and if there are any others that tell me I have their hardware and can help them, I'm not going to check yours out, so put the problem as the title with some detail, someone just may be able to help you.

Talking

If it is a built in modem, it is more than likely a "Winmodem" that is
dependent on windows files for operation. I tried sites that claimed to have linux
drivers for these devices and never got one to work properly.
I had a lot more success with pcmcia cards as they seem to be more of
the "hardware" category.
If you are running slackware email me and I will be glad to help you configure
pppsetup.
Other distros I have no experience with, but I am told RH SUSE and Mandrake
will autoconfigure.
Good luck
