this is not a kali problem
but a VM problem

reread the vmware documentation

also of note Kali has networking DISABLED by default - this is a SECURITY measure

Welcome to LinuxQuestions

As stated this is a feature of Virtualbox. Only USB devices are available to the guest. The built in wireless network adapter will only appear as a virtual wired ethernet adapter. If you want to use an application that requires wireless monitor mode then you need a compatible USB wireless adapter.

Yes, guests in both VMware and Virtualbox are unable to use built in wireless device.

Per your original post's question no. The guest will create a wired virtual device that uses the host wireless adapter.
