Hello,

If you are a Linux newbie then you should try Ubuntu family, Mandriva. Red Hat 4 may not have drivers for the hardware which are on ur laptop.

try these commands as root
lshal |grep -C10 eth0
lshal |grep -C10 wlan0

each should show you details of your interface. If they are not there, kernel modules were not written for them when RHEL 4 was released. If it is there, system-config-network might get you out.

Spell out your words, and use a good subject title, please. "Help me" doesn't give anyone any idea on what you need.

First, RedHat EL4 is old...the latest is 5.5, so install the latest version of whatever you pick. Second, unless you are PAYING for RedHat Enterprise...DO NOT USE IT. You will get NO support, updates, patches, etc. Use a community-supported version, like CentOS, Ubuntu, openSUSE, etc.

Since you've got a laptop, and you're brand new to Linux, use Ubuntu or Mandriva. It will support your hardware better, and let you get patches/updates.
