Help. Installing Gentoo on a Gateway M500 Laptop

So im trying to install gentoo linux on my gateway m500 and i have a little trouble. im dual booting but this isn't the problem. when i go to install grub im doing the emerge -k grub then i have to do "grub" to edit it, but when i do this, it goes straight to "probing devices for bios info" and it sits there. i check the process flags and its D. anyone who knows a way to get around this i'd really apperitate it. thanks

Sorry I wish I could help you with this. I am working in Slackware on my M500 laptop and have had some fun figureing out how to configure everything to work correctly on mine. I was only just able to get the sound to work correctly after trying for about two weeks. If you have any help or could use any, let me know.
