Help ! for newbie


newbie trying to install ubuntu on IBM ThinkPad R-51 2887 RU1 120mg ram 30g HD ... familiar with windows products ... 1st time with Linux product ... wiped xp off drive and started install of Ubuntu ... re-booted and went through name, password, etc .. program advanced to "preparing for installation" (installing packages) and has "frozen" at 0% for 45 minutes or more... it's like the installer has quit! Did I do something wrong? thanks .... castlebrie

i don't know if you did something wrong really, but i 'd suggest you to wipe your computer clean again and re-try installation and see what happens...
let us know what you did?

Did you burn the .iso yourself? If so check the MD5SUM. It could just be a bad burn.

thanks

thanx for the suggestions ... decided to wipe HD and re-burn Ubuntu ... I burned it at 24x and am re-burning at 8x ... I think maybe the speed is all wrong at 24x ... (make any sense?)

Ubuntu = bad news for R series. I have an R30 and it halts at either 0 or 84%. I have passed all the possible options and my media / image is good. SuSe seems to work fine though......
