HELP!!! Critical temperature reached 80c?????
 

Hi all. I have a acer aspire laptop and have recently installed bt3. The trouble is im completely new to linux and havent really got a clue what im doing, anyway, when bt3 boots up it all runs fine for 5mins or so and then i get a window pop up that says 'critical temperature reached 80c shutting down' and it does!! Can anyone help me solve this problem please. Im running windows xp normally and never have any problem with overheating. thanks in advance.:confused:

I run only Linux on my Acer Aspire4520 (and in all other computers too), but I have no such problem...*buntu, Scientific Linux, Fedora, Suse.

Try running:

As root.

yeh i no. in at the deep end, sink or swim!! it seems to be the only OS that i can achieve my goals with!

I just type those into a shell?? Sorry complete newbie!!

Yeah, first login to root by typing:

in a terminal such as rxvt, xterm, Terminal, then put in your root password and press Enter. Then type in those exact commands I posted and press Enter after each. That should load some acpi modules that might be needed for the fans to work properly. Can you hear the fans working or no ?

Please *definitely* open your case and make sure *all* your fans are running correctly (the main system fan and the little fan over your CPU)

While it's open, consider "blowing it out" (carefully blowing off any accumulated dust inside the PC).

You might want to consider getting a new power supply (an unfortunate number of PCs ship with crappy power supply units): a bad PSU, or a failing PSU, can cause exactly these symptoms.

BT3 does not have cpu throttling enabled and your procesor is running at 100% constantly. Granted that shouldn't be a problem so you probably need to clean the insides and the fans thourghly.

You'd be surprised how many times I've had overheating problems with laptops that were resolved by cleaning up the fans. Start with blowing up the dust, it might be all you need. Do you hear fans work at all?

Hi all problem is now sorted and all it needed was a clean! Took it into work and blew it out with the airline and now it all runs smoothly. Thanks so much to all that helped.
