Having Trouble Booting RH 9 on Dell inspiron 1100.

Hi I have been trying for the longest time to get Red Hat 9.0 on my Dell inspiron 1100 without any luck. The red hat 9 cd 1 which should boot into the linux setup screen will not boot at all. I know that I can boot from cd because I have done it before. I don't have a flopy drive so I can't boot that way either. Can anyone out there offer advice? I would appricate any thing anyone could help with. Thank you.

PS I am running Windows XP.

Did you verify the iso before burning it? (Probably best to verify all3 to save wasting cds) Did you try burning at a different, lower speed?

And Welcome to LQ :)

I did not download the ISO's. I have the RH 9 distribution included with the book Red Hat Linux 9 for dummies (i must be a complete moron.). By the way I don't know if this will help anyone help me or not, but I don't want to do a duel boot, I just want to run RH 9.

then you could delete window and run linux.
first check if you had CD-ROM set to bootable in your BIOS.
second, if you got it booting on your system. then when it comes to partition. say automatically partition which will do pretty much everything for you.

good luck

Well, I figured out what was wrong. The book was telling me to boot from disk 1, but the publishers of RH linux 9 for dummies got the cd numbers reversed (1 is 2 and 2 is 1) on the cds that came with the book.e I now have it instaled on my desktop and am getting ready to install on my laptop. It boots, I already checked. Thanks to everyone who gave good advice... do you think I should send a red flag to the publishing compony?

May the gods of Silicon Vally bless you and keep you CPUs always cool.
