Hard drive issues: common problem with Linux on laptops ?

Last week I installed Slackware on my Compaq Armada M700
with my Fujitsu 2.5" IDE hard drive I just bought. I was very happy with Slackware. I thought it was very smooth and everything went well until yesterday.

Here's what happened: I was on the internet when I noticed on the Gkrellm HD graph a regular pulse (about 5 seconds between each one). I rebooted and nothing changed.

I ran the Fujitsu hard disk utility but found no error on my drive.

Is my hard drive starting to die ?
Are hard drive issues common on laptops running Linux ?

Sorry...

I thought posting my problem on the "Laptop" forum would of been more appropriate.

Now see if you can ask a moderator to merge the two threads.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.

I'm closing this one because there is actualy discussion going on in your other thread.

Continue this here.
