Hang up on eth0 interface when ethernet cable is not connected
When booting up when away from my home lan (when instead i plan to use wireless) my laptop stalls on "Bringing up interface eth0." I would expect it to simply detect that my ethernet cable is disconnected and say "Failed" and move on but instead it stalls for a good 2 mins.. and then for some reason goes back to the boot screen where it says:
"Enabling swap space [OK]"
it then stays there for another full 2 mins and then eventually goes back to the current position in the boot and it finally prints "Failed" and moves on to bringing up my eth1 wireless connection.
Can anyone think why this is happening or a solution to it? I am relatively new to linux but it seems to be me that maybe there is some conf file where I can change how many times or how long it will keep trying to establish the connection before giving up.
Thanks in advance for your help, I'm having this problem on Dell Inspiron 700m running Fedora Core 3
