grub installation

Hello Everyone

Im new to this forum. I have a HP Pavillion Zt 1130 laptop. I wanted to install LFS 6.0 version. But i faced many problems. Firstly the LFS bootcd did not recognize the cache memory avialable. Laptop has a 1300 Mhz Mobile celeron processor with 256Kb external cache. But the kernel only recoginized 32Kb as the cache. I tried the cachesize kernel parameter and still the cache size remains the same.

I think due to the cache size problem, my compilation took awefully lot of time. I ran ALFS and it took me 25 hours to compile the whole thing. But now im facing another problem.

When i have installed linux on a primary partition. I installed grub to the mbr. Grub reported that the installation was successfull. But when i reboot my system, the grub menu is not being shown. Instead the system boots windows xp. Whatever i try i am still getting the same problem. Im thinking of chaging the bootloader to lilo will that help?

Please guys i very much would like to complete my lfs installation.

Thanks in advance
Surej

Can you post your menu.lst file?

-) try activating the linux partition if you used the boot record of your linux partition as destination

or

-) write the grub loader to the master boot record

I have a similar problem,,

I installed redhat 9 properly then it told me to reboot right after the installation ended,,

I rebooted the system but when it comes to start grub it only shows the word "GRUB" and that's it,

And it doesn't do anything else after that,

Now I can't even get into windows,

Just a blank screen with the word "GRUB"

I read some in these forums I found some of the people saying the rescue disk or something,,

I don't have a clue,

So what could it be or what can I do to solve this problem,,,

Those people used regular installation boot cds to get to the rescue modes,, I only have usual distrues to boot from like redhat 9 and couple of live cds.

Could anyone please help me,,?!!!

Cute BEAST!!
