GPU Fan issue when using nVidia drivers

Hi, my situation is that as soon as I install the nvidia drivers on my opensuse 10.2 Toshiba P100 the GPU fan stops working and the laptop gets extremely hot.
If I then uninstall the nvidia drivers and reboot the GPU fan then works normally again.
Is there a patch available for this problem or is there a third party program that I can use to control the GPU fan?
CPU fan seems to work fine with or without the nvidia driver.
