GPL number situation

>I cant enter my OS because it asks for GPL number or location route. where can i get one? There is a piece of paper in the box which says "The Linpus Linux GPL source can be downloaded from the website www.linpus.com."

I have searched that web site, and cannot find a download location for the
source code. So far, fairly unsatisfactory, since I would expect it to be a lot easier to locate the source code given the "written offer" quoted above.

I think you're misreading something, GPL is the publishing license used, you've no interest in that as a user. could it be asking about IP addressing or routing??

Yes, indeed, it should be easier. Try going to their "Support" section and asking them to provide a download link for the source code.

Be aware that they are not required to provide copies of any code they've written that "uses" GPL software, but they are required to provide copies of any GPL software they ship in binary form, including any modification they've made to that code.

Also note that, in order to use the source code, you'll need a complete software development tool set. Compiling a operating system and distribution is a non-trivial task and, if that's something you actually want to do, you might find it easier to start with a distribution like "Linux from Scratch" which provides the needed tools, code, and instructions needed to build a working distribution.

I'm sure he doesn't care / know about the source code, it's just the reference to where the source code is available from has made him think it is relevant, when it is not.
