Good Distro for Acer Aspire 5315
Hi
Im looking for a good distro for my Broadcom based wireless laptop. I tried Ubuntu, but the wireless with the Broadcom STA Driver sucks big time, wireless and ubuntu dont go well together. Can anyone recommend another good distro? |
Hey there SaraiKhan.
Now hold on a second. That's not necessarily true. Granted, the Broadcom drivers in the kernel do suck (I had a Broadcom BCM4308 AirForce One in my laptop, and it crawled). Wireless in Ubuntu is actually good, and my RaLink RT61 PCI worked just fine. Question: Would you like to try an alternative method to getting your Broadcom card to work at it's full speed, or would you just want to go with a different distro all together? If you want a different distro, your system specs would help us all greatly :) |
Well, I was considering trying Archlinux, I used it before, and the speed and the not-bloat level are incredible. I dont know how it will handle my laptop though. My specs are a Celeron 550M at 1.6 Ghz, compliant with X64, X3100 Graphics Card, and 1 Gig Ram. Any suggestions?

Arch would be a great choice, I've used it before...Gentoo and CRUX might be other good ones too, being that you can custom build the systems in both respects (packages and optimisations), and they're a small footprint in most cases...Note: CRUX is very advanced...
