Gnome Battery Monitor False Alarm
 

Hi there. Sony Vaio VGN-FS215B laptop with SuSE 10.0 and Gnome desktop. A short time after I boot up on battery power a warning window pops with the message: "Your battery is running low. You have - 1 minutes of battery power remaining (92% of the total capacity)." The percent might be different, but it's clearly more than 1 minute's worth. I click OK, the window disappears and I'm able to work OK for up to a couple of hours - just as I would expect.

It's only a mild irritation, but has anyone else seen this, and is there anything I can do about it? I've looked in YaST/Power Management and it is set for battery warnings at 7 and 12%.

(BTW, I installed ubuntu 5.10 on an ancient Compaq Presario - just to see if it worked, it did - but I didn't get this.)

Update: Installed SuSE onto the Compaq to see what happens. Don't get the warning window, but if I hover the mouse pointer over the battery icon, I get the message "System is running on battery power. 1 minute (72%) remaining. The 72% (or whatever) slowly goes down, but the 1 minute stays.

Odd.
