getting screen to show up automatically after opening lid

Hello all,

I have Debian on a Dell D410 and when I close the lid it turns off the screen. When I open the lid again the screen stays off. I have to switch virtual terminals to get the screen back on. It's just the screen that shuts off--after I open the lid I can type in commands and tell that they're executing (e.g., through the sounds). There's just no screen output, whether I close/open the lid in a regular terminal or KDE (vt7).

I've seen this issue discussed in the past but I can't find the solution anymore, here or on google. I'm guessing there's a script somewhere executed when the lid is opened, that I can add a "wake-up video" type command to? Thanks.

I had the same issue until recently with my hp pavilion n3350, running ubuntu 7. Since I started messing with the power management on it, though, the problem disappeared. The reason was it was seriously overheating.

I can't be sure how I solved it, but what I did was a kernel recompilation, setting up ACPI, and disabling all apm. I disabled apmd from boot. I also have it locking the screen when it's shut.

Hope this helps in some way.

Sam
