Gentoo - Forgot to Configure Network
Hi,
I have managed to install gentoo (just the core), it boots up fine, simple commands work but I have no internet connection. I have the Dell Inspirion 1520 with the intel 3945 ABG Pro WIFI card. In the kernel, I checked off support for this card, <*> (not as a module). when I dhcpd starts up, I see the error message "Network interface eth0 does not exist, please verify hardware or kernel module (driver)" ifconfig only shows "l0" ifconfig eth0 "eth0: unknown interface: No such device" I must have forgotten to do something but don't know what that would be. /etc/conf.d/net (I left this file blank) I appreciate your help, Cheers - CC7 PS: I am using the latest 32-BIT knoppix CD to write this (and I used it to install Gentoo.) ------------- Edit:added PS. |
Those chips require a licensed ucode package from Intel in addition to the in-kernel driver found in recent kernels.
I haven't done a gentoo build for mine, but this seems to cover things pretty well. |
Thanks, I didn't know that.
I guess I'll recompile the kernel again :) Now need to figure out how chroot actually works....rather then blindely typing things |
