Gaim 0.72 on Redhat 9.0

I want to replace my old version of Gaim.

Downloaded gtkspell-2.0.04-fr3.src.rpm because Gaim 0.72 has gtkspell as a dependency.

Tried to install gtkspell, got:

warning: gtkspell-2.0.04-fr3.src.rpm : V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e42d547b
warning: user dude does not exist - using root
warning: group dude does not exist - using root
warning: user dude does not exist - using root
warning: group dude does not exist - using root

Trying to install either from Nautilus does nothing. Gaim 0.72 seems to stall when reading the headers I think.

I am not actaully sure where to install either to be honest. I see that my current version is at:

/sur/bin/gaim

Should I just overwrite this?

first remove the old version of gaim then install gtkspell by doing in console then ./configure,make,make check, then su to gain root permissions and do a make install, after that install gaim if from source the same way as above if rpm then as you are used too...

Well, my personally opinion is to simply download the actualy rpm, not the souce rpm. (the .src.rpm means it's the source, not the actual RPM.) install that, then install gaim .72 and you should be all set. (atleast it worked for me on Mandrake... after installing tk, and tcl that is)

Downloaded gtkspell-2.0.4-fr3.i386.rpm.

But upon trying to install at the terminal I got:

warning: gtkspell-2.0.4-fr3.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID e42d547b

Did this as root, the current directory was my home though.

Upon trying to install gaim this time though:

warning: gaim-0.72-1rh9.i386.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 883c1c14

followed by lots of lines like:

file /usr/lib/gaim/ from install of gaim-0.72-1rh9 conflicts with file from package gaim-0.59.8-0

Trying to install graphically does nothing. Should I delete the old Gaim? I am little nervous about doing this due to all the interdependencies on my dekstop and stuff. Thought this RPM stuff was supposed to be a breeze!

Well I got Gaim 0.72 working now so thanks for your help.

Installed gtkspell at the command line, even though it looked like it had fouled up.

Removed the old Gaim using the Redhat add/remove apps utility.

Installed Gaim 0.72 at the command line and low and behold it all works perfectly (for now).

(This time yesterday I couldn't even get my external floppy to mount let alone sort out my winmodem!)
