I have a acer netbook that runs on Linux, been trying to play movies but I just keep getting error messages....browsed over a hundred google pages but I still can't get it right, Someone pls kindly help me....
Are these movies on a DVD? Are these movies a file?
What is the error message that you get (the exact message is best)? Do you get several messages? Has this been happening since you installed mPlayer? Did it start some time after its been working?
Also, if you start mplayer from the command-line (gnome-terminal, konsole, etc. ...) and you get error messages there, it would be a good idea to copy them and paste them inside [ CODE ] [ / CODE ] or [ QUOTE ] [ / QUOTE ] tags.
I've downloaded VLC for linux and also K-lite but they didn't work...
Please be precise: Did you successfully install them (so the error occurs when opening the video file), or did you run into trouble during installation?
By the way, I never heard about k-lite, but the most common solution is in fact VLC because it is relatively painless (once installed).
After asking Google about "k-lite linux", I ran into different sources that suggest that k-lite is for Windows only (I could be wrong here - there are/were(?) certain Windows codecs available for Linux). I guess you are having trouble installing it, right?
VLC and K-lite are two different things -I'll just have to delete K-lite then.
VLC is downloaded but not installed, tried to install it but I have to create directories now and I'm having problems with that now. Where am I supposed to create them??

Sorry, but this isn't detailed enough. Are you trying to install the Windows version of VLC? This might or might not work if you have a program called "wine" installed, but do yourself a favor and install the Linux version.
EDIT: You stated that you downloaded VLC for Linux. I only noticed after I wrote this post so I apologize if I'm wrong. But I can't think of anything that would require you to create directories. /EDIT
Earlier, I assumed that you are using Fedora because of your profile (see your own posts above, there's an icon). So I posted a link to instructions on how you install VLC on Fedora. Instructions for other distro's can be found here. Could you tell us what distro (aka "Linux flavor" or "distribution", such as Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian, SuSE...) you are using?
Also, please try to make your posts more detailed in the future.
