I am writing from South America and searching the possibility to buy a laptop with free software.
Where can I find a reliable shop which can provide me a good one without being suspicious that the hardware contains any installed spyware device?. Which kind of laptop could be a very good choice for a person like me working in natural sciences (geology)?

Buy any laptop. Go online and download several versions of Linux (LinuxMint, Ubuntu, Puppy, Fedora, etc.) and burn I'm disks. Then run the disks as live and see which one you like. Then install it - that will wipe the original software and you will never again need to worry.
