ok, i am running fc4 on my laptop it is a compaq armada m700 and when i type i have to hold down the "Fn" key for letters to show up and not numbers. this is the opposite of what i want it to do. is there any way to fix this?
Congrats on getting Fedora4 installed. Check out linux-on-laptop linux installs on your lappy. None of the notes mentioned problem with keybd or Fn keys.
What keybd is config'd in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 or xorg.conf. What does kde infocenter or control center--or gnome equivalents-- say about your keybd? Does Fedora have any notes for lappy install at their forums or howtos? Does Tuxmobile have any BIOS,APM/ACPI notes for your lappy?
Good luck.
I had a problem similar with my gateway laptop and PClinuxOS. It turns out the numlock was enabled by default. For a quick fix, turn off the numlock manually (for my machine, it was Fn plus the "scroll" key).
For a permanent fix, I deleted the numlock in the startup scripts. It was in /etc/rc4.d or /etc/rc5.d or /etc/rc6.d...I can't remember exactly which one. Find the symlink with numlock in it and delete that.
