Firewire support question

my old man is on my back asking if his kernel for red hat 7.3 (2.4.20-20.7) supports firewire. i've been to linux1394.org and according to this quote below, it should be.

Quote:

Supported Linux versions are 2.2 through 2.6. The subsystem has been included with the standard Linux kernel sources since version 2.3.40. The subsystem is also distributed as a patch for adding it to Linux kernel version 2.2.
is it safe to assume that this is correct? please help me get my old man off my back. he's got a one track mind and is adept at bugging the living crap out of me.

A quick way to check for firewire support is to run this command:
find /lib/modules -iname "*1394*"

I use firewire since RedHat8, but kernel 2.4.20 should be ok.
