Firewire DVD/CDRW on Sony R505EL
I have RedHat 9 loaded (via FTP) on my laptop, but I can not seem to get it to find my CD drive that is hooked in to a docking station and connected through a firewire interface. I have done searches on the internet but it seems all the patches are for RedHat 7.3. When I try and load ohci1394 it gives me back an error. Most everything seems to work fine otherwise. Built-in Net, Wireless in PC-slot, X windows, all good. Still need to get power properties working, but would like to get CD working first. Anyone have any suggestions or success loading what I am describing? |
What error do you get when you issue the command ' modprobe ohci1394 '
Do a ' lsmod ' and see if it is already loaded. This is info related to the drive as being the 2nd cd/cdr/cdrw/dvd/dvdrw in your system. You will need to load the sbp2 module also. Then you should be able to mount using something like this ' mount /dev/cdrom2 /mnt/cdrom2 '. That is if you have a soft link pointing to /dev/scd2 to /dev/cdrom2 in the /dev directory. Haven't worked with firewire for awhile. If you are still having problems I will try to help you. As far as using it as a cdrw then x-cdroast will find ( will need to run the configuration setup again ) it for you to use it as a writer. Seems like I missed something. Seems like I need to fix this and it should work...

What notebook is this?
What does ' lspci ' say? Also ControlCenter/Information/PCI shows a little more detail. Whats in your /etc/modules.conf file? What drivers are under /libs/modules/current kernel version/drivers/ieee1394? What kernel are you using? May need to compile a newer kernel. |
