File Recovery

I have a Dell laptop with Win 2000 loaded but corupt. I don't have a Win 2000 CD to restore so I tried to do a recovery command prompt boot using SOT LINUX CD I have. What command(s) would I do to mount the HDD, navigate to "MY DOCUMENTS" and copy these documents to a thumb drive. Is this even possible?

You could search the forums for detailed info on mounting drives, where it is covered exhaustively, but here's a rundown:

mount /dev/hda /mnt -t ntfs
cd /mnt/Documents\ and\ Settings/{username}/My\ Documents
