Thank you so much, ichiro. it worked like a charm.

Note: When you make both of the jack sense mute, it beeped like crazy. To fix do this:
1- Uncheck the mute you just checked.
2- Turn down the volumn of all other in the volumn control.
3- Check mute for both jack sense again.
Now you should not hear the beep any more.

ouch, that's an ugly error, alsa should really make sure that the headphone jack is muted by default!

Installed Fedora 19, no sound, (no wireless either but that's another issue)
