Fedora, Firewire, and HP ze4430us

Ok, so I am admittedly a newbie to Linux, but I never thought to have this much trouble.

I recently obtained Fedora Core 1 from a friend, and installed it on my laptop (an HP ze4430us) Installation went fine, albeit i had to disable the USB during installation. The battery died during the first hour of playing around, and i tried to restart the machine. However, the boot hangs while trying to initialize the ieee1394 firewire controller.

I have no idea how to fix this. I've tried appending the command line boot with things like nofirewire and such, and tried to disable it through the bios to no avail. I'm really out of ideas, and have no desire to give up so easily and return to windows.

I know this is a common problem on laptops, but i have yet to find a solution. Any help would be more than welcome.

Hi there, the first thing I would do is hit the "I" for interactive startup, and choose not to load firewire. that will get you past the hanging on boot. im not exactly sure on how to get the firewire working on your laptop, but if you dont need it then it wont be a problem.

the next thing I would do is go to /lib/modules/2.X.XX/kernel/drivers/ieee1394 and change the file name ohci1394.o to something else like ohic1394.o . that will cause the kernel not to load firewire at boot

hope this helps.

another place you can look for info about linux on your laptop is www.linux-laptop.net
