fedora 8 : keyboard and touchpad problem.

I am using lenovo 3000 Y500 notebook.
spec. are as below..

pro : intel celeron M 420 1.6 GHz.
motherboard : 965GM express chipset.
graphics : intel 945GM integrated.
ram : 512 ddr2.
touchpad : ALPS.
Wi-Fi : Broadcom.
hdd : 60GB

As soon as I got the latest release of fedora, fedora 8. I tried installing it.
1. the first problem occurred during installation when Xserver started, the keyboard and touchpad stopped responding.

so I connected my external mouse, keyboard and finish the installation.

2. after installation also both the things didn't respond.

so I went through all the possible solutions which are posted on google. but no use.

My Xorg file didnt have any touchpad entry.

the most strange part is that some times, when I make some substantial changes to the Xorg file (like adding a synaptic driver), both the things (keyboard and touchpad) start working at once. but on the next reboot every thing is coming back to same.

please help me out.. I am stuck with that damn windows and have no clue what to do....

i would grab a different LiveCD distro CD (Ubuntu, etc) and boot that, then copy the xorg.conf over to your install provided it works. some have better luck than others and Ubuntu adds absolutely everything to it's default file

additionally, try searching Google or LinuxQuestions and see if someone posted a working xorg.conf for your laptop model

thanks catfishk. I will try that.

same problem

Hi,

I am facing the same problem in my lenovo 3000 y500 laptop. Is there any solution for that problem!.....

neo8307 03-13-2008 12:55 AM

The mistake I am doing was, I was connecting my external mouse and keyboard with a "ps/2 to usb" converter.

afterwards I removed that converter and bought a IBM usb mouse.
then also after booting my keyboard was not detected.
for this problem, you have to reboot the system by fedora dvd until you got your keyboard detected.
don't worry it will be detected in 4-5 reboots.
rest all is smooth, don't remove your mouse until the installation is complete. during installation yor touchpad should work.
after installation check your xorg.conf file at "/etc/x11/xorg.conf".
it should have a Synaptics touchpad entry.

Your Suggestion Worked.....

Adding i8024.reset at the end of the kernel line in grub solves the problem.
