Fedora 4 - Display Setting On Ibm Thinkpad T23
I am new to Linux and have just loaded Redhat Fodora 4 into my IBM Thinkpad T23 2647MU laptop. Everything is fine except that the laptop display resolution can only be selected as either 800x600 or 640x480. As a result the graphics display is not very clear. What do I have to do to allow me to select 1024*768 (16-bit) ?
I also had a problem with the virtual console displays being located in a coloured rectangle with the characters being messed up. This was fixed by adding "vga=791" to the kernel line in /boot/grub/grub.conf. Thanks - Donald Semple |
I also have the same problem on my T42, anything above 800x600 creates a very garbled screen. Someone mentioned getting a driver for the videocard, but on ATI's website it says to refer to the laptop manufacturer, and on IBM's website there is no mention of Linux driver for my videocard.

i had the same problem on my thinkpad t23. the way to solve it is to edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. just delete any other rezolution from the line with the default colour depth. on mine i have only "1024x756" at 24 bit - it works like a charm.
tested on debian, vector and slack. not tested with other distros/ |
yes i had the same problem as well FC4 on presario x6110US, I edited my /etc/X11/xorg.conf adding 1024x728 to my display... and it fixed the problem
