FC4 MD5 sums

I'm not sure I trust the media check that runs at the beginning of the FC4 installation routine.

EVERY LAST ONE of my FC4 CD's failed the media check, including the rescue CD.

These are brand new, freshly burned CD's. They don't have any scratches or the like on them.

I generated the MD5 sums of my iso's to check them, but red hat only supplies SHA1 sums! How do I generate an SHA1 hash of my iso's???

...or maybe someone has made MD5 sums of the FC4 CD's? linuxiso.org usually has them, but FC4 is not there yet.

What's up with that?

Hmmm...

I don't think this is the right forum.

I don't know how (or even if I can), but I'm sure one of the moderators will move it for me.

oops

From within XP? That's all I have right now.

Maybe a live distro? I'm pretty sure I have a knoppix cd around here somewhere. Let me try it and get back.

Thanks

LOL, you're joking, right?

XP = Windows XP

I booted to knoppix and ran sha1 hashes on all 5 iso's. All passed with flying colors.

I may just tell that full of dookey media test where to shove it. I can't find anything wrong with my cd's, so I'm just going to give it a whirl.

What do you want to bet that the installation goes without a hitch?

Is this your first time with Linux? Try writing the cd's at a lower speed or use different settings in the software your'e using (disk at once, track at once etc...) Or try using different software entirely

The install went perfect. It took less than half an hour.

No problems with the cd's yet.

Thanks for reporting. I'm having the same trouble: good sha1sum, bad mediacheck, but apparently good installation.

Addendum: running mediacheck on a different computer showed that all the CDs are good.
