Yeah, that's a good way to go. So is antiX. On my slowest laptop, I'm currently using BunsenLabs "Deuterium" (haven't replaced it with BL "Helium" yet, so that's still "Jessie"), comes with Openbox.

Previously I had installed Linux Mint 17.3 XFCE edition on this hardware. Peppermint is definitely quicker than that system. I even have a couple of games installed, one from Steam (Teddy Floppy Ear - The Race) and the other from GOG (Flatout 2 - this one is an official port that uses WINE), and both play without a hitch on this notebook.

Really? I only know of SLAX & Salix, (maybe include Zenwalk and Vector).

Compared to how many are based from Debian - that's small fry.....

Smile Distro for older laptops

I've always had good luck with Puppy Linux - (Slacko 6.3.2 currently). Seems to fit the bill for me and the old Toshiba Sattellites.

I've heard alot about antiX, but I was never really super interested, until I found out that it does not use SystemD. So, I am going to give it a real try now. It will be my "experimental" distro for now, alongside my Mageia and Slackware. Perhaps I will need to adopt it as a permanent distro to use eventually, although I don't think it's good to have too many regular distroes.

But not having SystemD and all the things I heard aside from that from alot of people here on the forum, I think there is quite a good chance I will have to adopt it is a third distro of choice. That is if I like how things are when I experiment with it the coming weeks.

I use Arch Linux with XFCE on a single core Toshiba Satellite C655D and have overall had a good experience.

A more accurate split of distros based on the major distros.
