External monitor on i810

Hi, I recently got another LCD screen, and thought I might as well plug it into my Slackware laptop.

I never got the VGA out working in linux so I am trying now. I have googled it, but I find that the only returns I get are for nVidia or ATI cards and drivers. My laptop has an Intel 915GM graphics controller. In my xorg.conf I use the i810 driver. I can post it in here if need be, but its basically the slackware default one with my resolution in it.

I searched these forums, but all the similar threads seem to end with a dead end. If anyone knows where to look for a sample xorg.conf or something to help me, or can help me directly I would be very appreciative.

PS: What I am aiming for is for the monitor to extend my desktop, not to clone etc, but this seems to be simple enough by putting it in the ServerLayout part of xorg.

I have the 810 driver working in my laptop, with external monitor.

Look at my xorg.conf here.

Your site is still down, but looking through your X11 thread in the slackware forums I found some info. Also I have looked through the i810 man page.

I added this line: Option "MonitorLayout" "LFP,CRT"
in my Device section, and magically the VGA out port started working, and my LCD lit up, unfortunately the laptop screen was off. I have fiddled with putting CRT, LFP and None in various combinations, but all I get is the external laptop screen. I wanted to get them both, cloned, or preferably one on top of the other.

Does anyone have any clues as the what the laptops screen is, I assumed it would be LFP for local flat panel.

I have to use (On my Gateway Lappy) a fn+F3 to get the screens to toggle (Just like I was using a nameless GUI from Redmond,WA)...
