i have slackware 10.2 on a thinkpad R40. whenever i wake the laptop from Fn+F4 sleep (suspend?), the ethernet is dead. any ifconfig commands i try to run just stall and lock up. the only way to get the network back is to reboot. it used to only happen occasionally, once every 10 times maybe, enough to be a nuisance. now it's every time. what can i do to troubleshoot it?
Edit the script or tool that launches your 'sleep/suspend' in the following way. BEFORE suspending bring the ethernet device down ('ifdown') and removing the ethernet module ('modprobe -r'). AFTER waking, reload the module and bring it back up ('ifup').
This was the only way I can get my USB mouse to work after suspend.
thanks! it's so simple and obvious i don't know why i didn't think of it. i kept trying to find the cause. so far it's been enough to take ifconfig down and kill dhcpcd. today i'll try just ifconfig eth0 down and see if that's enough, but i suspect it's the dhcp. if i can find out what options to give dhcpcd so it won't lock up i'll post back. thanks again.
