Error inserting ndiswrapper

I'm trying to use ndiswrapper 1.8 to install drivers for an Intel PRO 2200BG Wireless NIC, but am getting the following errors:

during the "make install" portion, I get

Warning "wireless send event" [......ndiswrapper.ko] undefined

or something to that effect in the midst of all the rest of the compile code. Then, when I type modprobe ndiswrapper, I get:

FATAL: Error inserting ndiswrapper (/lib/modules/.../ndiswrapper.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

dmesg reveals:
ndiswrapper: Unknown symbol wireless_send_event

ndiswrapper loads the driver fine and it shows up as present in the hardware. I've tried recompiling both the kernel and ndiswrapper to no effect. Does anyone have any ideas?

Well, I was under the impression that those NICs had native support, but you may wish to try another version. Various versions work with various kernels.

There's a possibility I might not even have to use ndiswrapper if I can get these drivers to work:

Just not sure how. It's a pretty convoluted process. Can somebody help me out with what to do once I've downloaded all the necessary files?
